Load-bearing flexible decoupler has a small light-off converter packaged internally. The low thermal mass of the FlexCat design, along with its close proximity to the exhaust valves, allow the catalyst to heat up rapidly, effectively reducing the light-off period. The catalyst is also attached to the downstream end of the decoupler, reducing engine-induced vibrations.
